A rare screening from the archives PLUS a brand new film about Russia and its revolution opens Saturday of the Bristol Radical Film Festival this year! TSAR TO LENIN and REVOLUTION: NEW ART FOR A NEW WORLD will play side by side from 1pm.

TSAR TO LENIN (1pm - 2.10pm)
BRFF is pleased to offer a first UK screening for this long lost retelling of the Russian Revolution. Produced in the USA, the film is a collaboration between the owner of a remarkable collection of original footage from the period, and an American revolutionary opponent of Josef Stalin. Destined to remain unscreened as a result of pressure from Russia in the 1930s, and US anti-communist witch hunters in the 1950s, Tsar to Lenin is a significant document in the film history of the Russian revolution.

Runtime: 1hr 8m
Director: Herman Axelbank

REVOLUTION: NEW ART FOR A NEW WORLD (2.15pm - 3.35pm)
Margy Kinmonth’s extensive study shows the impact of the Russian Revolution on the country’s artists. This is an opportunity to see much of the iconic work created by the exciting artistic movements that sprung up alongside the attempts to create a new society, as well as a study in the forces that worked to suppress it.

Runtime: 1hr 25m
Director: Margy Kinmouth
