Known for their love of traditional Indian music and culture, and named after a 9th century South Indian King, much of Kula Shaker's catalogue features lyrics in Sanskrit and traditional Indian instruments such as the sitar, tamboura, and tabla.
Their obscure mix of psychedelic riffs, mantras, and rock and roll mysticism laughs in the face of 90's Britpop orthodoxy and, combined with their revision of the swirling, guitar-heavy sounds of late 60s psychedelia, brings crowds an energetic, impassioned live experience.
